The book of Joshua gives us some insight into what it looks like to take up the burden of leadership previously held by another. God selected Joshua to succeed Moses, and as we see throughout the rest of the book, the obedience shown by these two men resulted in God's great favor over Joshua's position.
On paper, Joshua may not have had every single characteristic of a great leader. There's a good chance he doubted his own giftings, as many of us do when faced with new responsibilities. However, he was faithful and obedient, and when the time came, he answered the call with an unflinching yes.
If you are standing at the precipice of something new and are anxious about your abilities, we pray God's peace over your next chapter. He has placed you in this spot for a reason, and will walk beside you every step of the way.
"Then they answered Joshua, “Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you as he was with Moses." -Joshua 1:16-17 NIV |
