A Prayer for Canada – For Such a Time as This!
Many Canadians are feeling confused and even anxious, trying to make sense of the current situation of political threats to our economy and our Canadian sovereignty. Recently, I’ve had three significant dreams about the relationship between Canada and the United States, but it was the third one that felt particularly urgent to share with others.
After discussing this dream with Peter Barbour, we agreed that this might be a pivotal moment in history, when the Church is being called to fast and pray. Just as Esther called the Jews to pray before approaching the King, we would like to propose that the ACOP churches of Ontario set aside March 30, 2025, as a day of special prayer, with fasting for those who feel led. This is a Call to Pray for Canada – “for such a time as this.”
In this dream, many trains were moving with fervency across Canada, dramatically increasing east-west traffic. Upon waking, I was struck by two key thoughts: First, The Fathers of Confederation foresaw this moment and built the system for such a time as this. And second, it is crucial that those with influence across various sectors—industry, business, transportation, professions and ministries—press governments for the necessary changes in our inter-provincial systems while this door of opportunity is open.
Retired individuals with connections in their former trades can still engage in conversations with those in influential positions. Various levels of the Canadian government are currently focused on removing east-west trade barriers and professional limitations. Projects “sitting on pause” for decades, are now being stirred back to life. Reports indicate approximately 200 billion dollars of GDP growth can be gained by the renewal of trade within our own country.
The dream also suggested that this window of opportunity will be brief. As tensions with the U.S. ease, the natural tendency will be to return to the easier north-south path. We must seize this historical opportunity to benefit Canada by revitalizing our economy coast to coast.
Dreams of this nature cause me to look for confirmations that it is God’s message. It came through a devotional called “Finding Jewels in the Desert”, from TGIF Today God is First by Os Hillman of Marketplace Leaders. It contained an Arabian fable about three merchants crossing the desert at night. As they came to an old river bed they could see sparkling pebbles in the star-light. Suddenly, a gruff voice came from the darkness yelling, “Halt!” In fear they jumped down from their camels. They were directed to each pick up a pebble, put it in their pocket, and leave without stopping until day-break”. Fearful and perplexed, they obeyed the formidable voice, wondering what this was about. As they left, the voice called, “In the morning, you will be both happy and sad. Now go!” When morning came, each man pulled the single pebble from his pocket and saw that it sparkled in the sunlight. The “pebbles” were precious gems. They could have had handfuls, but each had only taken one. The desert wind had erased their tracks, and they would never find their way back to that place. Feeling both happy and sad, they had found wealth in the desert, but they could have taken more.
God is always creating new things and situations. Often the creative process is chaotic and difficult, but He creates treasures in dark places. We must take hold of this moment to gather treasures for our nation, and for God’s Kingdom.
Let’s unite our hearts and our churches, March 30, 2025, as a day of special prayer for our nation. Together, we can strengthen Canada to fulfill our calling, “for such a time as this.”
